General information:
This is a one-year stand-alone full-time Foundation Certificate, designed primarily for international students whose first language is not English.
The programme provides a grounding in language, culture, critical thinking and communication and will be highly relevant for a number of undergraduate programmes in the Arts and Social Sciences, specifically as a pathway to the BA in International Communication Studies run by the School of Modern Language and Cultures.
Over 50% of the content is devoted to improving oral & written communication, IT and study skills. These are developed within a context of discussion about global developments in economics, politics, society, media, culture and the environment. In all elements of the programme emphasis will be placed on the development of intellectual and critical skills necessary for successful study in British higher education.
Students apply for their undergraduate programme via the UK UCAS system during the year of study and staff in the Centre will offer expert advice in this process.
Students who intend to pursue their undergraduate studies at the University of Nottingham will have the advantage of developing a strong early familiarity with the environment and facilities of the Nottingham campus and the requirements of academic study. During the course they will be registered University of Nottingham students with access to student facilities on campus.
